“My dad used to bring me here when I was a kid.”
We often hear this at Clay’s Cafe. It is then followed with the question, “What did this place used to be called before?”
In 1932, Earl and Dorothy Cummins started the business, then known as Cummins Ice Cream. For 47 years, they made homemade ice cream. In its prime years, cars would line up on Route 40 waiting to get in for a delicious treat.
In 1979, the Cummins family sold the business to the Clay family. Sherman and Evelyn Clay started introducing pizza and other foods to the menu. In 1997, their youngest daughter, Glenna, and her husband, Mark, took over the business.
We would love to hear your stories and memories of Cummins, County Fair Foods, or Clay’s Cafe. Stop in and share them with us.
